bmw stock alarm does not work?
hi,
I own a 1998 1.9L Z3, recently I replaced the stock stereo for an aftermarket head unit the sound is way better, however the alarm stop working, when setting on the keyless remote the alarm only chirps 3 times and the powerlocks do not work, I already try the reactivation of the remote ( found this on mz3.net) and nothing, will it be a battery problem?

should i get a different alarm an eliminate the bwm stock alarm?
I re-installed the stock bmw stereo but still does not work.
The alarm (BMW calls it anti-theft) does not work through the radio.
The radio is just one of the protected or monitored items in the anti-theft system.
A brief description of the system would clear it up for you. The major items involved with anti-theft are:
a) zke/body module concerned with central locking
b) EWS (immobilizer/engine starting)
c) hood position switch
d) radio anti-theft switch
e) crash module
f) instrument cluster
So first check fuses 9 & 44 for the radio and 31 and 43 for the anti-theft. If they are ok, then check the radio anti-theft switch behind the radio/center console (it is switchable from radio installed to radio removed). If all are ok, then the installation of the new radio had probably damaged the anti-theft and therefore also affected the general module (which controls central locking).
BMW electronics is sometimes so complex and involved as in this case. Removal/replacement of the alarm/anti-theft may bring more problems than solutions. But it is your choice.
