Convertible Used Cars Auction Raises Over £3m
A recent auction saw more than 300 convertible used cars sold for an incredible £3.6 million in total.
The auction took place on Wednesday at the home of leading auction house British Car Auctions (BCA), and saw over 200 buyers flock to the site in Brighouse, North Yorkshire – along with another 100 used car dealers who made their bids via internet connections.
There were 319 convertible cars up for sale, all but ten of which had been sold by the end of the day. Prices paid ranged between £4,000 and £30,000-plus, including a 1953 Volvo C70, which went for £6,400, a 1956 Mini Cooper, which sold for a cool £10,400, a 1956 Porsche Boxster 3.4 Roadster, which sold for £22,200 and a 1956 Audi A4 1.8T Convertible, which went under the hammer for £14,000.
Auction organisers noted that the vigorous bidding seen throughout the day showed that there was solid demand across the country for convertible used cars.
Lex Autolease senior valuations and auction manager Simon Rossiter told the Daily Telegraph newspaper that "this was another spectacular convertible sale and coming on the back of sales at BCA Blackbushe and Glasgow demonstrates the demand nationally for convertibles."
The BCA auction at the auction house's site in Blackbushe, Surrey saw a single owner's treasured collection of more than 30 convertibles dating from the late 1940s to the 1980s go under the hammer. At that particular sale, 35 of 41 cars were sold, including a 1959 Ford Zodiac 2.6 Convertible which was snapped up for £6,300 - despite the fact that all the cars up for auction were described as "barn find" cars which required verying degrees of recommissioning.
