How long before the combustible engine car is completely replaced by electric cars?
2015? 2020? You would think it would've happened sooner but I think they are still trying to develop a way to efficiently store energy in an energy cell for electric cars. I'm not sure if you can take an extremely long trip in an electric car yet. But as far as performance goes, the electric car has already matched the combustible engine car and then some. It can reach some fast same top speeds (electronically limited to 125 mph) now and it can accelerate faster than a gas powered car. The Tesla Roadster is pretty cool.
they are actually. there's a company called EEstore that's working on a lightweight, yet powerful battery that will offer more range and even quicker recharging time (around 5 minutes full charge). they already have a patent on it but they're still working on the actual battery. some people are sceptical on whether or not EEstore will actual succeed but only time will tell.
as for the person who said tesla roadster only gets 50 miles. that's a lie! you heard that from top gear right? they're biased against anything remotely eco-friendly. they also lied about the recharging time. it takes 3.5 hours to do a full charge. but tesla is coming out with a new charger which will cut it to 2-2.5 hours. and some people have taken the roadster to a distance of 280 miles on a single charge.
also if you look at the new Tesla car which is just a prototype now, they say the higher end models of it will have a range of 300 something miles. pretty good!
chevy volt is more like a hybrid, not a fully electric car, but its progress! we've had electric cars before and its good to see them coming back. chevy volt is the first step, then it will be like a Domino effect and we'll start to see more electric vehicles on the roads eventually.
